At first the families simply gathered at Christmas to sing and have fun, but in 2000 Neal and Roxanne decided to formalize the gathering and invited several relatives and friends to join them. This heralded the birth of LOS AMIGOS CANTADORES!
The year 2001 was used to hone skills - in particular to learn stage craft and other techniques from the more established performing bands. It was a learning period. By 2002, the band joined the National Parang Association of Trinidad & Tobago (NPATT) and placed fifth in its Instrumental Competition. They also copped the Best Box Bass Award while two young players Marc-Anthony Marcano and Joseph Bertrand were specially awarded for their skill on the maracs. In 2003 during just their third year of performances at the NPATT competition Los Amigos Cantadores placed eighth. The group copped two national titles in the TIDCO Parang Competition and the Lions Club Competition. The band also took several other titles including Best Lead Singer and the Best Lead Instrument.
